Die alte immerwährende Sony Apple Geschichte

In der März Ausgabe der Business 2.0 findet sich ein leider nicht online verfügbares Interview mit Sony's CEO Nobuyuki Idei, der sich darin unter anderem auch zum Verhältnis zwischen Sony und Apple äußert:

"There are a lot of joint projects going on between Sony and Apple. I've seen Steve Jobs three times in the past year, and we talk a lot about how we can define common technologies for, say music downloads. We are working with Apple on improving connectivity with camcorders. We make great use of QuickTime in our Sony Ericsson telephones and in our Clie PDA's. But we would like to work more closely with them.

My plan now is to get Steve Jobs together with our own Steve - Ken Kutaragi. They haven't met yet. It would be interesting to see how they would get along, because both of them think they have all of the answers. [Laughter] Where we go from here with Apple all depends on the chemistry between Ken and Steve."

Vor fast einem Jahr, im März 2003, gab es ebenfalls ein Interview mit Idei:

"Idei: We actually met several times with Steve last year, in January, March, and June to try to work out a mutual strategy. But you know Steve, he has his own agenda. [Laughs.] Although he is a genius, he doesn't share everything with you. This is a difficult person to work with if you are a big company. We started working with them, but it is a nightmare. We have the exact type of guy like Steve within Sony. His name is Ken Kutaragi. They respect each other. So maybe if we can get them both together then they could figure out how the PlayStation and the Mac can work together.

Perkins: Well, in many ways Sony has always been Steve Jobs's model for Apple.

Sir Howard (Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Sony Corporation of America): So we are also rivals, and trying to get together would frankly be a waste of time!"
